strong element

If you don't know what an element is or how you must use it, I recommend you read the "HTML tags and attributes" tutorial that you can find in the HTML tutorials section.

Description

The strong element provides importance, seriousness or urgency to the text it contains. Thus, it becomes a useful resource to distinguish the important or serious part of headings and paragraphs, or to mark up text that the author intends to be read first or with urgency.

The contents of the strong element are traditionally rendered by browsers with bold text. Nevertheless, this behavior can be altered using style sheets.

Examples

In our first example we'll set up a heading for the description of the 8th episode of our favorite science telvision show. Here you can see how the text "Episode 8" is somehow of lesser importance, and the episode's name is what really matters.

<h1>Cosmos: A personal voyage</h1>
<h2>Episode 8: <strong>Journeys in space and time</strong></h2>
<p>Ideas about time and space are explored in the changes that constellations undergo over time, the redshift and blueshift measured in interstellar objects, time dilation in Albert Einstein's theory of relativity, the designs of Leonardo da Vinci and of a spacecraft that could travel near light speed, time travel and its hypothetical effects on human history, the origins of the Solar System, the history of life, and the immensity of space.</p>

Our second example shows a list of actions people should take in case of fire. The most important or urgent part of it is marked with the strong element.

<h2>In case of fire</h2>
<ul>
  <li><strong>Leave fire area and close doors.</strong></li>
  <li>Activate fire alarm pull stations.</li>
  <li>Attemp to extinguish fire only if you can do it safely.</li>
  <li>Report any information about fire to Police or Fire Department.</li>
</ul>
